Shocking truths about atheism and its triggers

I have a friend. My friend claims he is an atheist. When he announced the unexpected truth about his atheism, I was taken aback. I was amazed not because of his state in the religion universe but since he is the first person who is close to me who has come out as an atheist. Thew only atheist I have known of are the movie and TV shows actors like Miles Fyner of God Friended Me TV show.

I am a strong Christian and undoubtedly believe in the existence of God and all He does. I am not against atheists as I hold people's choices highly and strive hard not to interfere with them. This was an exception. Out of curiosity, I found myself acting journalist and suddenly strings of questions followed the statement of his atheism my friend had told me. Why doesn't he believe in God? What triggered his sudden decision? Why now?

"I just thought deeply as I was singing on a Sunday church service asking myself 'Who am I singing to? If I cannot see him, how can he be existing?' ," my atheist friend answered. "These were the questions I found no answers to and therefore resolved to bein an atheist," he added assertively. I found these explanations quite vague and thought of the possible causes that might have triggered his atheism.

What triggers one to be an atheist?

External Motivation

The movie and film industries play a very big role in the decisions people make. Hollywood is very influential in the TV industries as many people especially the young like copycatting the lifestyles lived by the movie and TV shows actors. Everyone has that character one is looking up to and tries to do things as they do. This will go to even an extent of changing the voice accents to fit and be similar to the movie idols. 

This is the same case to matters involving God. Getting used to seeing many movies having atheists as the main characters lead to the die-hard fans following up the trend of their TV idols and hence end up being atheists too. A perfect example is the God Friended Me TV show where the main character is an atheist and runs a motivational podcast about his view on the world being without a Supreme Being. His podcasts are very intriguing and they will definitely make one an atheist when listened to if one has less faith.

Role models too play a really big role in the 'Making of an atheist'. Their lifestyle starting from the clothes they were, their walking styles, general conduct and their disbelief in the existence of God leads to the ones who look up to them being an atheist like them.

Internal Motivation

Some unavoidable circumstances which befall human beings are most likely the other main reason why some people turn to be atheists. The questions like 'Why?' usually make one closer to God or further away from Him. 

The death of loved ones leaves people asking 'Why did God let this happen?' and at the end cease believing in God as they think that He did not stop the situations from taking place. They lose the little trust they have and end up declaring that they are now atheists.

Though in life there are challenges, they are bound to happen. Regardless of their state where they are negative or positive situations, God intends to bring us closer to Him. He exists and loves every human being and that is why He allowed His son Jesus to be crucified on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven.

GOD EXISTS. Let us all acknowledge this and strive hard to remain in fellowship with God our Creator.
