StareheBoys@60
This year, 2019, Starehe Boys’ Centre and School will be celebrating 60 years of existence since its founding in 1959. Thanks to the late Dr.Griffin who founded this great and reputable institution with the late Mr.Geturo and the late Mr.Gikubu, more than 15,000 boys have gotten a chance to stay and learn in Starehe Boys’ Center and School.
Not only are boys the only ones who get this privilege of getting quality education in Starehe but also girls too as 14 years ago in 2005, a similar institution like Starehe Boys’ which caters for the need of the girl child (in need in terms of well being or education) Starehe Girls Centre was built.
As the school will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, here are some of the things you ought to know:
This logo to mark 60 years of Starehe’s existence is designed on the base of red and blue color just like the school’s iconic uniform. With the words curving stylistically to form part of the 60 number depicting the institution and the number of glorious years it has existed. This iconic logo has been and will be showcased on many things like hoodies, mugs, bags and also in letter heads.
The Students of both Starehe Schools institution: Starehe Boys and Starehe Girls, the school stage an original musical, Daniel and the County Live Wires in the Schools Assembly Hall. The musical which ran for approximately two and a half hours attracted a huge audience. The play was written by Kyama Mugambi (Kenyan) and depicts the challenges in leadership that Daniel faced in this modern day world with the fight of corruption and showcasing integrity being some of the main themes of the play.
For a whole fortnight every weekend, the play was performed in Starehe Boys’ Center and School. The main theme of the event was #60Instruments4StareheAt60 where the funds gathered from the selling of the play tickets was to be used to purchase 30 instruments for each of the Starehe Institutions.
Last year, 2018, we saw one of the old boys of Starehe Boys Center and School cycling for 500 km to successfully raise ksh 2 million for the school. The same Sam Kibiko, has willingly decided to cycle double what he cycled last year to cover a total of 1000km from Mombasa to Busia. All this he will be doing to raise funds from the School.
